Be Careful Out There |Covid-19 Face Masks

Richard Elliott April 9, 2020

Many of us older Americans will remember the television show Hill Street Blues. After the shift briefing, the duty sergeant would end by saying, “Be careful out there!” Ovoid-19 is making us all crazy but we do need to “be careful our there”. The Center for Disease Control says that it is critical to emphasize that maintaining 6-feet social distancing remains important to slowing the spread of the virus. The numbers seem to indicate that the spread in peaking in some locals. However, we need to be vigilant until we hear the “all clear” in our locality. It will vary considerably by locality.

The CDC is also recommending that we all wear a face mask when we go out. So now, in most places, face masks are the new normal when you go outside ’til further notice. Trip to the grocery store? Yes! Trip to the doctor? Yes! Trip to the pharmacy? Yes! Walk in the park? Yes, I guess so. Here are three videos that will show you how to make a face mask.

Pick the one you like best.

Other face mask options

If you don’t want to make a face mask, Amazon has a 50-piece package of disposable face maks for under $25. Reviewers say they are the best price in the current circumstances.

Fight Covid-19 Common Sense

Above all, let common sense prevail. Don’t put yourself in harm’s way if you don’t have to put yourself in jeopardy. It is far better to be safe than sorry. We, seniors, are particularly vulnerable. Make a face mask and carry it with you. Use home delivery and drive-thrus when you can. The slogan in my home state of Utah says it all – Stay Home. Stay Safe. Save Lives.

About The Author

Richard Elliott

Richard Elliott observers the world of senior citizens from the inside out. The sad truth is that he is well-ensconced in the senior citizen years. No matter what criteria you use, he has been a member of that "not-so-exclusive" club for over a decade...and counting. He is a veteran of almost a half-century in media. He’s owned and operated radio stations and even a weekly newspaper. He even remembers when mainstream media still at least gave the pretense of being objective and unbiased.
